PARSENN DAVOS

PARSENN
The long Davos morning flank begins at the Salezer Horn and ends at the Alteingrat. On this flank, the two flying areas, Parsenn and Schatzalp, are accessible by cable cars, but the largest part of the flank in the southwest of Davos is a wonderful hike & fly area with countless take-off points.
Since the flank faces east, the take-off points are usually only usable in the morning.
Parsenn high trail
As the traditional launch site has been obstructed by avalanche barriers since 2015, there is no longer a marked launch site. Nevertheless, there are various options for launching, 2 of which are described here. Unfortunately, there is no longer a landing site in Davos Dorf. The Bolgen landing site can only be reached with a good glide ratio and good nerves or some thermals. Beginners are advised not to fly directly to Bolgen without a take-off elevation.
Due to the lack of a landing site, this flying area is particularly recommended for early thermal flights and as a starting point for cross-country flights.

Altitude: 2170 m.a.s.l.

Route: From the Höhenweg station, descend in an easterly direction without a path to a flat area, approx. 100 meters of walking and 30 meters of ascent.
Weissfluhjoch
CH-1903 Coordinates: 780.527/189.360
WGS-84 coordinates: N46° 449.854' E9° 48.308'
Altitude: 2625 m above sea level
Usable wind directions: SE
difficulty: medium
Directions: From the Weissfluhjoch, descend on the road towards the high trail and then cross the chairlift under the top two masts in a southwesterly direction. The starting point is on an artificial flat area almost on the ridge.
Description: Alpine take-off point on scree. After the artificial edge, the take-off point becomes very steep.
Alternatives: If there is still snow below the SLF building, you can start on the north side of the funicular.
Dangers: Due to the altitude (ridge location) and the take-off direction, moderate to strong winds from almost all directions are dangerous. The alpine environment increases this situation even further.
Salezer Meder
CH-1903 Coordinates: 782.734/189.219
WGS-84 coordinates: N46° 49.741' E9° 50.039'
Altitude: 2200 m above sea level
Usable wind directions: NE
Difficulty: easy (start towards the north only possible as a cliff start)
Directions: From the Höhenweg station, walk 20 minutes on the Höhenweg towards the northeast, 50 meters above the Höhenweg.
Description: Towards the south and east, a flat, easy place with good opportunities for thermals above the Maiensäss on the Meierhofer Berg. 50 metres above the marked take-off point there is a large area for top landings.
Remarks: Potential for early thermals. Afternoon soaring in northerly winds is reserved for advanced pilots as takeoff conditions are challenging and flight conditions are rather turbulent.
This launch site is not intended to replace the morning flight area 'Höhenweg', but to extend the possible usage time into the afternoon with strong valley winds.
There is no official landing site in this flying area that is within the glide angle.
